Books start here mla meet & greet
On March 23rd, the Books Start Here campaign invited Nova Scotia Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to a meet and greet event. Local book publishers and authors hosted more than 20 MLAs from all three political parties, presenting the campaign’s goals and showing local politicians the success and growth potential of the local book publishing industry.

BOOKS START HERE – WOLFVILLE
The Books Start Here event in Wolfville on March 17th was a fantastic evening of all things local publishing. With more than 150 people in attendance, this event featured literary enthusiasts from all aspects of the book and publishing world and an interesting panel discussion as part of the presentation.
A big thank you to authors Ami McKay, Anne Bishop, Chris Benjamin, and Alexander MacLeod; to industry supporters Hilary Drummond, Maggie Neilson, Herb Wyile, Ben Bush Anderson, and Genevieve Allen Hearn; and publishers Andrew Steeves, Andy Brown, and Errol Sharpe for sharing their thoughts, insights, stories and support. Thanks as well to The Box of Delights Bookshop and Acadia University for being great local hosts and Nova Scotia publishers for a dynamic display of local books.
Books Start Here – Mahone Bay
Prominent Nova Scotia writers headlined a celebration of books and book publishing at the Mahone Bay Centre on February 25th at 7 p.m. Janet Barkhouse, Sylvia Gunnery, Nancy Wilcox Richards, Vernon Oickle and a host of other writers joined dozens of book lovers in showing their support for the Nova Scotia book publishing industry.
Publishers and authors from Mahone Bay, Lunenburg and around the province displayed their books and were on hand to talk about publishing and its importance to Nova Scotia culture and to the economy of the province.
Campaign Launch – Halifax
The Books Start Here campaign officially launched at a Local Authors Meet and Greet at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on Thursday, February 4th at 7pm.
The event attracted more than 200 readers and book lovers who showed their support for Nova Scotia book publishers and a strong and vibrant book publishing industry in the province.
In attendance were authors and illustrators from across the province, including Sheree Fitch, Lesley Crewe, Stephen Kimber, Canada’s new poet laureate George Elliott Clarke, Frank Macdonald, Michael de Adder, Janice Landry, and Sylvia Hamilton.
